The Pope, at the end of the general audience, addressed “a particularly affectionate greeting” to the Ukrainian children, hosted by the ‘Aiutiamoli Live’ Foundation, by the ‘Puer’ association and by the Ukrainian embassy to the Holy See.
“And with this greeting to the children, let us go back to thinking about this monstrosity of war and renew our prayers to stop this savage cruelty that is war,” said Pope Francis.
The Pontiff then greeted the Ukrainian children present one by one, accompanied by their mothers, the associations that host them and the Ukrainian ambassador to the Holy See Andriy Yurash. Some children gave the Pope drawings with symbols of peace (hearts and doves) and with the colors, yellow and blue, of the Ukrainian flag.
The words of Pope Francis
“In a society that exercises sensitivity above all to enjoyment, attention to the frail can only fail and the competition of the winners can prevail”, the Pope added in the general audience, continuing the catechesis on the elderly. “Of course, the rhetoric of inclusion is the ritual formula of any politically correct discourse. But it still does not bring about a real correction in the practices of normal coexistence: a culture of social tenderness is struggling to grow. The spirit of human fraternity, which is my it seemed necessary to revive with force, it is like a disused dress, to be admired, yes, but… in a museum. Human sensitivity is lost “, commented the Pope.
