The fire that broke out on Monday just over a dozen kilometers west of Bordeaux (southwest France), and which has forced the evacuation of 840 people, has burned more than 3,500 hectares, according to the Prefecture of the Gironde department .

On its Twitter account, the government delegation explained today that during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday the fire that originated in the municipality of Saumos has burned an additional 300 hectares, which are added to the 3,200 registered yesterday.

The Prefecture pointed out that no more houses have burned (four had been announced on Tuesday) and insisted that “important land and air resources” have been deployed.

By nightfall, there were more than 900 firefighters from Gironde and other departments, plus three Canadair-type seaplanes, two Dash-type seaplanes and three water bomber helicopters.

Tuesday was a difficult day for the firefighting teams due to unfavorable weather conditions with a lot of heat (more than 32 degrees in Bordeaux), strong winds and the effects of the drought that has particularly affected that area of southwestern France.

It was precisely in the Gironde department, on its southern border with the Landes, where the two biggest fires of the summer broke out, in La Teste de Buch and Landiras, which burned nearly 30,000 hectares.
