Why VfB is familiar territory for Juan José Perea

Must Read

VfB has a new player – but Stuttgart is not new territory for him. We tell why.

Normally it’s always the same with newcomers who come to VfB Stuttgart from abroad . The first thing to do is to find your way around, to get to know the stadium and the surrounding area, and to pick up the first bits of German. Juan José Perea, VfB’s new striker, is Colombian and comes to Germany from Greece – and yet everything is a little different for the 22-year-old.

“Even as a child, I was a spectator in the Mercedes-Benz Arena wearing a VfB jersey,” says the attacker – and immediately presented the VfB officials with a photo as evidence. This shows him as a kid at a VfB home game a few years ago against 1899 Hoffenheim – with a hood on his head and a VfB scarf around his neck.

An uncle lives in Ludwigsburg
The explanation for the early contact with the Stuttgart Bundesliga club: An uncle Pereas has lived in Ludwigsburg for many years and took his nephew to the stadium. He is also a youth coach, which is why the current newcomer to VfB has also played as a guest player for a youth team in the region at the district sports facility.

So now he should help VfB play a season that will be more carefree than the last. “Now I’m very happy to be able to wear the VfB jersey as a player,” says Juan José Perea, who will wear the number 11 VfB jersey in the future. Another advantage of his background: He understands German quite well and also speaks a little of the language of his new homeland.
