The French company announced the cessation of server activities for several of its titles. Specifically, Ubisoft has stopped giving full functionality to games from the seventh generation of consoles (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii). This means that the various online multiplayer features of those titles will no longer be available. However there are other restrictions also included.
If any games within the list have player stats features, they will no longer work. Likewise, if the video game has unlockable content with progression, it will be impossible to access it. Those who managed to unlock said content previously will be able to use it without problem. On the other hand, offline features like single player modes will remain seamless.
Video games have been around for several decades. However, online functions do not have that much time relatively. The rise of online multiplayer occurred during the seventh generation of consoles. However, unlike video games without online features , preserving titles that do have them is starting to be a problem. The main complication has turned out to be the servers that keep the online functions active. In the future, many games will be preserved incomplete or inaccessible due to their servers eventually being shut down.
