On Tuesday afternoon, Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said third baseman Yoan Moncada could begin a rehab season at Triple-A Charlotte this weekend.
Yoan Moncada has been on the disabled list since Opening Day with a right oblique strain. Prior to today, the team had not provided many concrete updates on Moncada’s status. However, he did take some swings and ground balls over the weekend at Minnesota.
The Chicago White Sox are currently recovering from injuries. Luis Robert, Eloy Jiménez, Lucas Giolito, AJ Pollock, Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly.
If Moncada is ready for a rehab stint in Charlotte, it could be a great opportunity for a White Sox team in need of an offensive shakeup. In 2021, Yoan Moncada hit a .263/.375/.412 line with 14 home runs and 61 RBIs, earning a nice 4.0 bWAR. After a slow start to the 2022 season, the Chicago White Sox are surely hoping Moncada can provide a boost when he finally returns.
