The Houston Texans and wide receiver Brandin Cooks have agreed to a two-year contract extension, a source told NCT’s David Hyland on Thursday.
Prior to agreeing to the contract extension, Cooks was due a base salary of $12.5 million in 2022 as part of a deal signed as a member of the Los Angeles Rams in 2018 and restructured by Houston last year. Cooks was about to enter the final season of that contract.
Cooks , who has played in at least 14 games in all but his rookie season (2014), has reached the 1,000 receiving yards mark in six of his eight seasons as an NFL player .
Earlier in the week, NCT’s David Hyland reported that Houston had received interest from several teams regarding the wide receiver. A source told NCT that if Houston were to trade Cooks , a second-round draft pick would be needed as payment.
“It seems like whenever you talk about Brandin to anybody, they talk about his leadership , ” Texans coach Lovie Smith said during NFL owners meetings last month. “You don’t say that about just anyone. You have to do something very special for people to describe you that way.
“And as far as I’m concerned, being in a different role last year and just watching him from afar…I knew about him before I got here. I just saw how he took care of his business every day. he had. The routine. All the things that I knew good football players that I’ve been around on a daily basis, is what I saw from Brandin .”
In 119 games over eight seasons, Cooks has 573 receptions for 7,917 yards with 46 touchdowns.
