Novak Djokovic is still far from being able to play the US Open if there is no substantial change before the tournament starts at the end of August.

The Serbian, who has insisted on numerous occasions that he does not plan to be vaccinated against COVID, will not be able to play this Grand Slam because the organizers of the American tournament have again stressed that they will respect the country’s government rules on protocols against the disease.

It must be remembered that the laws of the United States oblige citizens who want to enter the country to have the complete vaccination schedule. The Serbian does not have it, so he could not enter the country.

The three-time US Open champion appears among those registered for the last Grand Slam of the year, but it is a purely formal step. However, the organizers of the tournament specified that they do not have their own regulations on covid and, in that sense, they respect government law.

“The US Open does not have a vaccination mandate for players, it will respect the position of the US government regarding travel to the country for unvaccinated non-US citizens,” they said in a statement.
