New York is one of the most popular states in the United States. And what about his city, the so-called Big Apple, which exudes style, is cosmopolitan, and a great attraction for millions of people of different origins. Bankrate recently conducted a study to determine the worst retirement destinations in the country, and to everyone’s surprise, New York is not on the list.

To determine which are the best and worst states to retire, the specialized site was in charge of analyzing at least five categories, which are affordability, which was given a value of 40%, well-being, with a value of 20%, culture, with a value of 15%, climate with a value of 15% and finally, the crime factor, to whom he gave a value of 10%.

The rankings resulted from the total value of all these categories. So his conclusion, of the worst states to retire in 2022 in the United States, are:

1.- Alaska
2.-Maine
3.-California
4.-Nuevo Mexico
5.-Montana
6.-Vermont
7.- Maryland

Why is New York not on this list?

As the Bankrate report explains, the reality is that, even though the costs of living are high in New York, the state came out with high scores in the categories of well-being and culture, so it managed not to make the list of the 7 worst places to retire

The analysis also clarifies that the reasons for moving from one state to another in the retirement stage, mostly have to do with very subjective reasons.

“When I see people retire and move to different parts of the country, 70 to 80 percent of the time, it’s to be close to family,” Clark Kendall, chairman of Kendall Capital Management and author of “Middle-Class,” told Bankrate. Millionaire”.

“Go to a variety of different places that appeal to you, places that have a lower cost of living and lower property taxes, and try them out for a while,” Laura Kovacs, former director of education for the Association of Realtors Scottsdale area in Arizona.
