Mortal Kombat Movie: How far does it succeed in replicating the Video Game series?

What was the last time you liked a Movie adaptation of a Video Game? Maybe just an year ago in the form of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’? That’s how the things are..

Packing a long tail of adventures into a mere 2 hours of movie, hence, movie representations of Video Games are not very much liked among critics.

Many Producers and Directors have tried to put the transformation of Video Games to the Big Screens in the form of Movie Series. And not so surprisingly, most met with failures and received negative reviews in high quantity.

Today, we will also talk about another Movie adaptation of a famous Video game series: Mortal Kombat.

If you are into video games, then you must have played at least one episode of this Brutal and Violent video game series.

Launched in 1992, Mortal Kombat is one of those few games which have managed to rule the hearts of gamers for years, and it will remain one of the most played games for years to come.

Launched in 1992, with 11 seasons/episodes upto now, Mortal Kombat has continued to surprise people with new characters and stories every now and then.

With characters like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Mileena, Liu Kang, Kung Lao etc. Mortal Kombat has made sure that Gamers remain glued to their controllers throughout the seasons.

So let us tell you if the director Simon McQuoid has succeeded in transforming the entire 11 seasons of Video Game Series into a hit movie of mere 2 hours.

First thing first; Are all the characters from the Mortal Kombat Saga present in the movie? Well no, it is obviously not possible to put all the 97 characters in a 2 hours movie.

But don’t be disappointed, your favorite characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Shang Tsung, Jax are indeed present in the movie, and you can be well assured that they will keep you affixed to your seats.

Now talking about the story-line; The story-line is something you would commonly expect. Shang Tsung is an ‘Otherworldly’ emperor who is sending his fighters to Earth to take control of Earth and its People.

Now common warriors of Earth known as ‘Earthlings’ in the movie will have to defend themselves by combating against Shang Tsung’s fighters.

Brutality in Movie; The thing without which the movie cannot be called ‘Mortal Kombat’, its Violence! The movie takes total inspiration from the original video game series and leaves no stone unturned when it comes to brutal fights and violence.

Right from the beginning.. to the end, the movie is full of extreme fatalities. And that’s the reason it comes with an ‘Adult-only’ rating.

Fighters like Sub-Zero, Kano, and Scorpion bring some extremely iconic fights with timely action, while Cole Young, the MMA fighter, brings his unparagoned martial arts moves to defeat Shang Tsung’s otherworldy assailants.

And what happens at last? Well We don’t wanna spoil your fun eh! You better watch the movie asap, it is a complete package of action. There won’t be a single moment in entire movie which will make you feel ‘bored’.

The direction, the choreography, the locations, everything is flawless. From our personal point of view, the movie is a 10/10 and brings maximal justice to the original ‘Mortal Kombat’ video game series.
