Argentine defender Lisandro Martínez will meet again with coach Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
The English club announced on Sunday that it had reached an agreement with Ajax to acquire the 24-year-old centre-back for nearly $58 million.
Martinez traveled to England this weekend to complete the transfer and meet again with ten Hag, who has just taken over the reins at United after managing Ajax since December 2017.
The deal is still subject to Martinez completing a physical.
” Manchester United are pleased to announce that the club have reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Argentine international defender Lisandro Martinez, subject to medical examination, completion of the terms of the player’s contract and UK visa requirements.” United said in a statement released on Sunday.
Ajax reported that the transfer fee amounts to 57.37 million euros ($57.9 million), with an additional 10 million euros for the Dutch club as variables.
Martínez has made seven appearances for the Argentina national team and was part of the team that won the Copa América in Brazil last year.
He arrived at Ajax in 2019 and played 120 games for the Amsterdam team, scoring six goals. He was crowned Erediviese champion in 2021 and 2022, in addition to being proclaimed the best Ajax player last season.
