Alejandro Kirk hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 on Sunday.
It was the Mexican designated hitter’s 11th home run of the season. Kirk will be the starting catcher for the American League team at the All – Star Game on Tuesday in Los Angeles .
Kansas City, at the bottom of the AL Central, missed 10 unvaccinated players, including outfielder Andrew Benintendi and infielder Whit Merrifield, for the four-game series in Toronto.
The Royals won the first game of the series and proceeded to lose the next three.
Because Canada doesn’t allow foreign nationals who haven’t been vaccinated to enter, the Royals had to call several minor league prospects.

Left-hander Tim Mayza (3-0) relieved Berríos and earned the win with a job of 1 2/3 innings. Jordan Romano completed a perfect ninth for his 20th save of the season.
