Spanish power company Iberdrola has bought the rights to develop the Mount James wind farm in northern Australia’s Queensland state, it said on Thursday.

Iberdrola did not reveal how much it paid for the rights to carry out the 50,000-hectare project with a capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW).

The company’s expansion into the renewable energy generation sector in Australia in the past two years has also included the acquisition of Australian wind and solar energy company Infigen in 2020, as well as the Avonlie solar park project in 2021.
