The LEGO Group and Epic Games have joined forces today to establish a partnership that will shape a “safe and fun” space for children and families in the Metaverse . They have set out to create an immersive and creative experience in which children of all ages can enjoy digital environments.
According to the report released this morning, progress in virtual worlds designed for people to meet, play, work or learn must go hand in hand with the creation of a space designed from the ground up for the well-being of the little ones . That is why they have committed to building such a world under the support of three pillars:
- Protect children’s right to play by making safety and well-being a priority.
- Safeguard the privacy of children by putting their interest first.
- Give children and adults tools that allow them to control their digital experience.
Niels B. Christiansen, CEO of The LEGO Group, noted that:
Children enjoy playing in both the digital and physical worlds, moving seamlessly between the two. We believe that there is enormous potential for them to develop skills such as creativity, collaboration and communication through digital experiences. But we have a responsibility to make them safe, inspiring and beneficial to all. Just as we have protected children’s right to safe physical play for generations, we are committed to doing the same for digital play. We look forward to working with Epic Games to shape this exciting future.
Undoubtedly, this association will be very interesting as both companies will assemble focusing on what they know how to do best. Epic Games has experience creating creative tools and building immersive worlds for players and we’ll see what they can offer this environment with the release of Unreal Engine 5, announced just a couple of days ago.
On the other hand, LEGO has stood out in the development of toys for children that feed their ingenuity, being also one of the leaders in the creation of digital experiences suitable for this sector.
The future in environments such as the Metaverse is attracting more and more companies, such as the recent news that Square Enix has partnered with Qualcomm Technologies to enter this field. As all this progresses, it may be that more such amalgamations will emerge to shape the digital future.
