The One Piece Netflix live-action series has cast another key role. According to Deadline, the part of the pirate Shanks went to Peter Gadiot, who is known from Once upon a Time in Wonderland , Queen of the South and Yellowjackets . Shanks is the only pirate in the manga and anime to have conquered the infamous Grand Line and, as a member of the legendary Gold Roger pirates, is one of the four most influential people in his field.
The British actor joins a cast whose Straw Hat gang core consists of Inaki Godoy ( Who Murdered Sara? ) as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd ( Fear Street ) as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson ( All Rise ) as Usopp, Taz Skylar (” Boiling Point “) as Sanji and Mackenyu (” Pacific Rim: Uprising “) as Roronoa Zoro.
Morgan Davies ( The Girlfriend Experience ) as Marine Captain Koby, Ilia Isorelys Paulino ( The Sex Lives of College Girls ) as the antagonist Alvida, Aidan Scott ( Between the Devil ) as Marine Officer Helmeppo, Jeff Ward ( Hacks ) as Pirate Captain Buggy, McKinley Belcher III. ( Ozark ) as Fishman Arlong and Vincent Regan ( The Bay ) as Marine Admiral Garp the First.
Also released this week is a poster for the new anime theatrical adventure One Piece Film: Red , which will be released in Japanese cinemas on August 6th and is the 14th film in the series to be released alongside the anime series. This is an original story by manga author Oda and directed by anime director Goro Taniguchi (” Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion “). The Straw Hat Gang will face an antagonist named Patrick Redfield aka Red the Aloof and will also feature Luffy’s mentor Shanks.

The live-action One Piece series is currently filming in Cape Town, South Africa, and will eventually set sail internationally on Netflix. However, there is no start date yet.
