With the arrival of the new update of Battlefield 2042 players will no longer be able to queue for the playlist 128 Player Breakthrough. There will still be a 128-player Conquest playlist (Battlefield’s “main” mode, as it is the original), but developer DICE has decided that Breakthrough will be more fun even without such a large number of players.
The chaos of 128-player maps was one of the many criticisms players leveled against Battlefield 2042 when it launched. DICE states that, after giving it some thought, he agrees that the importance of individual teams and individual players is “diminished due to the increased intensity and chaos of the fight.”
Breakthrough is an attack and defense mode in which a team must capture a series of sectors in order. Conquest, on the other hand, is giving away all capture points on a map at the same time and is characterized by many independent fights taking place at the same time.
We’re sustaining BT64 as the primary BT Mode. It will rotate through all maps, but you will find that some of the maps use the 64 layout, and some (on PC/PS5/XBSX|S) will use the 128 layout, but to a player cap of 64.
PS4 and XB1 will continue to have BT64, on 64 Player Layouts. https://t.co/zru6MxilcD

“While reviewing Breakthrough, we noticed that the 64 player version represented a more tactical experience”wrote DICE.”Reducing our player count helps remove some of the chaos from the experience, and combined with the reductions we’ve made in the number of combat vehicles available, it means players are able to hold the front line more effectively”.
