Audi and Porsche confirm their intention to enter Formula 1

The executive president of Volkswagen has confirmed it although the rumor had been on the table for some time

Changes are coming in Formula 1. Even more. Herbert Diess, executive president of Volkswagen, has confirmed the intention of Audi and Porsche to enter the Formula 1 World Championship. The two manufacturers integrated within the German group had been sounding in the orbit of the Great Circus for some time. And now it is a closer reality, at least from the point of view outside of F1.

Everything has been reported by the ‘Reuters’ agency after an appearance by Diess on YouTube. The Volkswagen group chief executive said “Porsche’s preparations were a bit more concrete.” The German automaker has not yet been directly involved in F1 but has worked with Red Bull on the world rally championship.

However, they have not yet announced how they intend to enter F1. As ‘Reuters’ had already explained a few weeks ago, in March, Audi was ready to offer around 500 million euros for McLaren as a means of entering the ‘Great Circus’. However, they were rejected and now they must find an alternative to enter. Meanwhile, Porsche intends to establish a long-term partnership with Red Bull.

According to ‘Reuters’, the Volkswagen group’s entry into F1, however, is “likely to happen within a few years”. It must be remembered that from 2026 the new engine regulations will come into force, and a gateway is presented for these two historic brands.
